Hi, I’m Brittney, I’m a 20 something mom just trying to survive the everyday messes that are mom-hood. I’m just like you!

I’m a blogging momma to the most adorable 2-year-old little girl. I like to think of myself as the little bit of everything mom. I have more hobbies than I care to admit. I enjoy cleaning the house and organizing everything from the living to the bathrooms and beyond. I am a huge organization freak. I could organize all day long if I was able to.

5 Awesome Tips for First-Time Moms

TIP 1 – ASK FOR HELP

You just became a new mom. I know sometimes it can be hard to ask for help when you need it most. But don’t be afraid to ask for help every now and then. I had a great support system when my daughter was born two years ago. That really made a difference for me as new mom and parent.  I know becoming a new mom is exhausting. It sure was for me. But you need to take care of yourself too. Even if that means you only get five minutes in the shower of  “me” time.

TIP 2 – IT’S OKAY TO FEEL GUILTY

I don’t know about you but as a first-time mom, I tend to feel guilty quite a lot. For example. yesterday my daughter was doing something she wasn’t supposed to do. I did whatever new momma does. I scolded her, told it wasn’t okay. She persisted to keep doing it. It finally got to the point that I had had it. I spanked her. As soon as I saw those little tears flooding down her face, I instantly felt guilty. I am here to tell you that it is okay to feel guilty. It comes with motherhood, especially as a new mom when you have no idea what the hell you are doing yet. It will get easier. Just not today, but tomorrow is a new day.

Tip 3 – You are Not a Bad Mom

I know there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t feel like a bad mom. And you know what, that is okay. Sometimes you’re going to feel like a bad mom. Whether its because you had to yell at your child, spank them, or made them burst into hysterical sobs because you told them “no”. Being a mom is tough, especially as a new mom. So remind yourself that you are a good momma bear. Sometimes being a mom means making the right choices for you and your child. And sometimes the right choices are the hard ones that you will have to make.

Tip 4 – Everyone has an Opinion

Whether you breastfeed, use formula, bought cloth diapers, or use regular diapers. There is no one right way to be a mother, although some may disagree. While your baby is in your womb and after your baby is born, everyone you know is going to feel the need to voice their opinions on how you should raise your child. The only thing that matters at the end of the day is the choices you make for your child. So if someone ever tells you that your doing it all wrong, just look at them and say “Thanks, but I got this”. Please remember that the only opinion that matters is yours. No one else is raising that child but you.

Tip 5 – Enjoy Your Little One

This is something I regret not doing more of. When I realized/ found out I was pregnant with my daughter I wasn’t able to have a baby shower. When my daughter was born, I didn’t get newborn pictures done of her. When her first birthday came around, we didn’t throw a birthday party. Then when her two-year-old birthday party came, I didn’t throw the party for her that I wanted. There are so many times that I had forgotten to enjoy my little one and the memories we were creating together as mother and daughter. If there is one tip I can’t stress enough is to enjoy every moment and memory you are creating with your child. Your child will grow up quickly before your eyes. It is important to enjoy every moment, every memory, every good and bad day with your little one. Because one day, they will be all grown up and not need us anymore.

I created Essential Messes as a friendly and fun place for new moms to come when they need a solution to one of the many challenges moms face. A place to vent when the struggles of motherhood are real. A place where real mothers can come together and support one another.

My goal is to offer first-time mommies raw and honest advice from the heart through my own experiences with my 2-year-old little girl. I want to show you that it is possible to have a clean and organized home as a new mom and still have time to have fun and be creative. Follow along as I discover the trials and wonders of motherhood and everything in between.
